Today saw us play a team that beat us comfortably in last years cup semi final and another team who regularly win silverware.
The message to the boys was simple “play and work as hard as Wednesday and fear nobody” The boys did exactly that and some. Again it was a tight game but we went ahead early with some neat work from Ernie to set up Henry who finished well. Our energy and work rate was too much for Gedling and we could have scored again.
The tenacity all over the pitch sparked from Jett’s tackling, left them struggling to break through and they resorted to long shots at Sam who made some great saves again.
The boys were becoming tired and we rang the changes. Charlie & Emmanuel gave us the energy we needed and they did a different job to Wednesday but it benefited the team hugely with the energy they bring. Isaac made a nuisance of himself with his presence and strength up top, always working the channels and looking to bring players in.
Noah took over from the ever dependable and solid Oscar with the additional pace ensuring Gedlings quick forwards couldn’t break free.
Ralph’s presence and strength and sheer determination helped take the boys in to the break at 1-0. Gedlings pressure paid off in the second period with two goals. The boys were disappointed because we’d been the better team for the most part and didnt deserve to be behind. The frustration was clear to see and understandable.
Then came the moment of the game. Very quickly after the restart Jett went on a mazy run in the middle of the park and Henry cleverly took the defender away with a great run, giving Jett two options. Jett chose the shot and it flew into the bottom corner for a deserved equaliser and a great goal to boot.
Chances for both teams followed but I think a draw was probably a fair result.
It’s great progress from last season and we are the only top team to be undefeated still. Another tough game next week against a strong West Bridgford team.
Thanks for all the support today guys, especially the dads who were absolute soldiers after last nights effort.
