Reds return to action

Reds return to action after a 1 week break

A bright morning set the stage for what promised to be another entertaining clash, despite a bone-dry and bobbly pitch. Today’s friendly saw us take on a strong DLFC side, hungry for revenge after our last encounter. Our fixtures with DL have always been closely contested affairs, and recent years have seen the pendulum swing both ways.

The message to the boys was simple: relax, enjoy the game, move the ball quickly, and make smart decisions.

As is often the case against DL, they came flying out of the blocks—dominating possession early and testing our defence with a flurry of shots. Fortunately for us, Jesse was equal to the challenge, pulling off some excellent saves to keep us in it. Just as we were beginning to settle and shift the tempo in our favour, DL struck first from a corner.

Credit to our lads though—our response was immediate and composed. Within minutes, we drew level through a well-worked corner of our own. Theo’s pinpoint delivery was met by Henry, who rose highest to head home emphatically.

Isaac had a golden opportunity to put us ahead after being slipped through by Henry, but the DL keeper pulled off a sharp save to deny him. With confidence growing, we pushed forward in waves—but just as momentum built, we were hit by a double blow. DL scored twice in quick succession—one a superb solo effort, the other another corner—which saw us head into the break 3-1 down.

Half-time was tough—heads were down and frustrations flared. It was a moment for reflection and resilience. The message: what’s done is done. Pick yourselves up, stay positive, and get back to playing our football with a smile.

The second half saw a much-improved performance. We came out with purpose and grabbed a deserved goal early on—Henry breaking through and finishing at the second attempt (with a little assist from the goal wheel!). You could feel the belief returning and a sense that another Reds goal was coming.

But football can be cruel. DL extended their lead once again, this time through an unfortunate own goal by Oz. Still, we refused to lie down. Henry completed his hat-trick with a classy looping finish to bring us back within one. In the final five minutes, we threw everything forward, creating several half-chances—but the clock wasn’t on our side.

Though the final score didn’t go our way, the mood at full-time was far more positive than at the break. The boys showed character, heart, and a real desire to fight until the end—arguably deserving more from the game.

Joint Player of the Match: Josh and Henry—outstanding efforts from both. Well done, lads!
